Setting up a social area in Reading
I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we ran out space. I decided to look near Reading Station.
I found the site while browsing and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a price that seemed fair for the work.
The process of organising this project was honestly quite detailed. I spent several days thinking on the layout of the room before ever picking up the phone. My lounge area has constantly felt slightly unfinished, and having a dedicated zone for beverages felt like the perfect fix to that issue. I remember standing in my kitchen staring at a messy surface fitted bar covered with glassware and feeling that everything had to shift. The initial interaction with the team was extremely straightforward, which provided me confidence. We discussed various styles, from modern sleek designs to more classic and timber textures. I was really impressed by how much detail they requested about the dimensions and the current decor of my home. It felt like they genuinely wanted the finished product to match perfectly with the rest of the property. I provided various angles in the photos I sent, making sure each nook was visible. They explained that the custom nature of the furniture meant that precision was absolutely critical to avoid any issues during the fitting. We moved back and forth on possible materials, looking at samples of laminate and various kinds of wood patterns. It is amazing how much thought goes into selecting the correct handles, like pulls and copyrights, which could totally change the feel of the entire construction. I needed a space where I might comfortably mix cocktails for guests without having to constantly run back to the pantry for ice or glasses. The ease of having all items in one spot was the primary driver for this investment. We settled the blueprint following a short consultation where all my concerns about plumbing and lighting points were addressed. I appreciated that they did not hurry the planning phase, taking the time to make sure that the width of the shelving was enough for my tallest glassware. It felt like a joint process rather than a simple sale, which is rare to locate these days.
The fitting day came sooner than anticipated, and the fitter was on time and prepared. He began by placing down safety sheets to make sure my flooring stayed tidy. Watching the parts being unpacked was fascinating, as the quality of the wood was instantly evident. He carefully checked the levels of the floor before attaching the base structure of the bar. I observed as the structure gradually took shape, changing a plain corner into a practical feature. The degree of craftsmanship required in scribing the boards to the uneven surfaces of my period home was notable. He explained why each section fitted in to create total stability. We spent a bit of duration choosing on the final height for the integrated fridge, ensuring it was accessible to reach but tucked back from main sight. The installation of the counter was the most rewarding moment of the whole process. Seeing the polished surface at last sitting on the base made the project come real. He then installed the glass backsplash, which immediately caused the room to feel twice the size. The lighting were wired next, and checking them for the initial time was a highlight. The soft glow underneath the shelves highlighted the bottles beautifully. I was able to visualise exactly how handy this might be during night events. The worker was highly diligent, spending the effort to wipe down every surface and clear any dust created during the drilling. He additionally showed me how to move the shelves should I later wanted to house bigger pieces. The focus to detail was really exceptional, straight down to the sealant beads along the edges. It was clear that he had immense pride in his craft, which is consistently reassuring to see. We did a final inspection of the finished installation to ensure all was to standard. I noted that a single handle was slightly wobbly, and he fixed it immediately with a quick turn of a screwdriver. This diligence was just what I was looking for when I booked the service.
The completed bar appears absolutely amazing and has turned into the main feature of my home. It offers a sophisticated vibe that was formerly missing from my living room. The capacity is huge, enabling me to sort all my liquors, mixers, and specialist glasses in one unified unit. No more do I need to rummage inside cluttered cupboard shelves to find a corkscrew or a certain kind of glass. Everything has its rightful place, which makes hosting much more simpler and relaxing. I love the way the materials catch the light in the afternoons, creating a warm ambience. My guests have now praised the design multiple occasions, with some even asking for the contact of the company who built it. It truly feels like a custom extra made specifically for my lifestyle. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for leaning by with a glass, and the integrated lighting units provide just the right level of illumination without being overpowering. Even when not in operation, it works as a beautiful piece of cabinetry that elevates the whole look of the house. I spent some time arranging my bottles on the shelves to create a pleasing display. The mirrored back truly help in displaying the labels and giving dimension to the tight space. It has inspired me to experiment creating different drinks that I before felt were too fussy to attempt in a normal kitchen. Having the sink close might have been nice, but the space limits resulted in we opted against it to preserve cabinet space. This was a conscious choice we made at the planning stage, and I do not regret it. The additional cupboard room for napkins and tools is much more valuable to me in the long term.
There were a couple of minor limitations that are fair to noting for a balanced perspective. The wait period for the bespoke doors was a little longer than I initially wanted. It took about eight weeks from the first deposit to the actual fitting date. While this is expected for high-quality furniture, it required a bit of patience on my part. I had hoped to have it ready for a certain event, but we passed that date by a few days. However, the communication from the office about the progress was consistent, so I was never left in the unknowing. I rather wait a little more for a result that is built to endure than have a rushed job that breaks after a couple months. The start price quote was additionally slightly lower than the total invoice, mostly because I chose to improve the hardware and include more inside lighting midway through the process. These adjustments were completely my choice, and the company was very clear about the additional fees required. Another small issue was the amount of packaging remaining following the fitting. Although the technician tidied up the build site well, there was a significant amount of cardboard to dispose of in my bins. It wasn't a huge deal, but a thing to keep in mind if you have limited bin room. Despite these small details, the overall journey was very positive. The standard of the finish is much superior to anything I could have purchased off-the-shelf. It seems solid and well-constructed, and I am confident it will withstand years of use. I feel the value it has added to my home well exceeds the upfront cost. It has transformed the way I enjoy my living area, making it far more social. I no anymore feel cluttered when people visit.
Reflecting back on the entire project, I am truly happy I went ahead with it. The initial spark originated from a trip to a neighbour's house in Oxford, where they had a comparable setup. I realised then how much it improved the flow of the party. When I returned to Reading, I started looking for local firms and found that going with a bespoke outfit was the only way to get the exact style I desired. The ability to pick each detail, from the colour of the paint to the position of the power sockets, made the final result was just as I envisioned. I even had a small hidden drawer built for keeping expensive items like silver spoons. This level of personalisation is what renders the experience special. It did not seem like a mass-produced piece being forced into a space where it didn't belong. Instead, it looks like it has always been a segment of the architecture. If you are thinking about a like-minded home improvement, my advice would be to remain calm and invest the time on the design stage. It is much better to change a drawing than it is to modify a cabinet once it is manufactured. The expertise offered during the beginning was crucial in preventing me from making common mistakes, such as putting the fridge too close to a radiator. These little details of wisdom are what you pay for when you hire skilled professionals. I am currently planning at other parts of my house to see where further I might add built-in storage. The success of this bar project has given me the confidence to start a bigger task in the bedroom next season. It has been a wonderful upgrade to my life, and I view forward to many seasons of using it with relatives and pals. Finding the right balance between looks and use was the goal, and I feel we achieved it completely. The process from a messy corner to a stylish hosting point was well deserving the effort and money spent. I today possess a space that I am really proud to share with to others. Reading has many great places to visit for a drink, but truthfully, I now prefer staying at home and enjoying my own private bar. It provides the identical feel without the crowds or the travel. That itself was worth the entire project. I am very happy with how the ambience functions in the night, creating a relaxing environment to relax after a busy day at work. It is the little treats like this that make home living much pleasant and enjoyable. I really appreciate the workmanship that went into the finished result. The manner the doors shut with a soft thud tells plenty about the build quality. No detail was overlooked, and the total look is precisely what I needed it would be when I originally started this adventure. It is a testament to the talent of the fitters and the standard of the components utilised. I am a very satisfied customer.
